Elkhorn: Housing for Indigenous Youth Attending High School
Sasuchan Development Corporation, the economic arm of the Takla Nation, in partnership with the Aboriginal Housing Society of Prince George, is proud to introduce Elkhorn Place. Officially incorporated in 2016, Sasuchan is committed to fostering a sustainable and prosperous economy for the Takla Nation through strategic land development. The Elkhorn Place project addresses a critical need for housing among Takla youth who currently lack access to local high school education. Located at 1431 Elkhorn Place, this initiative will provide stable, culturally sensitive housing solutions for Indigenous youth and Elders in Prince George. The project integrates multi-generational living with designated units for Elders needing medical proximity, alongside shared community spaces to maintain cultural continuity and support educational advancement. This strategic approach ensures that youth have the social stability, Elder guidance, and supportive environment necessary for personal growth and educational success.
With a vision to extend housing opportunities to the broader Indigenous community of Prince George, Elkhorn Place is set to become a cornerstone of safety and self-determination, reinforcing the Aboriginal Housing Society of Prince George’s role as a leader in Indigenous community development.
